Early Years

At Lothersdale Primary School the EYFS is a very special place. Children are care for, valued, supported and challenged to develop as super human beings and successful, curious learners.

The children and staff quickly build strong and positive relationships which enable mutual respect and care to flourish.

In the EYFS outdoor area and in the local woods and village, the children develop a sense of belonging to our community and a love of the nature they learn about. Wild bird, insect and plant names are a central element to the vocabulary we teach and practice following nature walks throughout the year. During the summer term the children enjoy collecting and cooking with wild garlic which they find on a nature forage to garlic island.

The curriculum has been carefully planned to include learning which interests, excites and prepares children, with strong foundations, for their journey as life long learners. Real life experiences (including science observations, handling historical artefacts, cookery and performances) and a rich variety of high quality books all help to shape their first year at school.

Kindness, respect, diversity, curiosity and pride are nurtured and celebrated.
