Art and DT

At Lothersdale Primary School, we have carefully chosen to use Kapow to support the teaching of Art and DT across school. Kapow offers teachers a comprehensive set of premium resources to ensure consistent teaching across school.

Kapow provides teachers with knowledge organisers for each unit. Furthermore, within each unit, Kapow provides teachers with a clear set of lesson plans, linking to the key knowledge and skills. Within each unit and lesson, national curriculum links are made, and key vocabulary is highlighted and taught. Each lesson also has supporting teaching videos to provide expert led tuition.

Printed resources are available and what is needed prior to each lesson is clearly outlined to support with reducing teacher workload.
Using the Kapow Primary teaching resources, we have developed our own bespoke Art & DT curriculum. Our curriculum is built on a two-year rolling programme following EYFS.

Units of work have been selected to enable cross-curricular links and to ensure that children have sufficient time to practice key knowledge and skills within the Art and DT curriculums. Where possible, classes teach the same strand of either Art or DT to enable effective subject moderation and to see how knowledge and skills are developed as children move throughout the school.

Assessment

Both formative and summative assessment is used in Art and DT. Formative assessment is on-going to ensure that intervention is provided at the point of need.

Summative assessment happens half termly using the Memory Monday activities. This ensures that children are assessed on previous learning throughout the year. Moderation activities also take place during subject staff meetings to ensure clear evidence of progression throughout school.
