Request a Leave of Absence

At Lothersdale Primary School, we actively encourage high levels of pupil attendance, as regular school attendance is essential for every child’s education.

Illness

Children who are too ill to attend school or may risk spreading infection should stay home. If your child experiences sickness or diarrhoea, they must remain absent for 48 hours from the last episode. It is essential to notify the school by 9:00am for every day that your child is absent.  If we don’t hear from you, we will contact you to determine the reason for the absence. Please note that registers close at 9:15am.

Pupil Leave of Absence in Exceptional Circumstances

Leave of absence during term time can only be granted in exceptional circumstances, in line with the government's admissions guidance. Parents cannot demand leave as a right. Requests must be made in advance by a parent with whom the child lives, and each request is considered individually by the school.

Key points to consider:

  • Leave of absence will only be approved for exceptional circumstances.
  • The pupil’s attendance must have been above 90% for the previous 20 weeks.
  • The pupil must not have any existing unauthorised absences.
  • Leave should not coincide with the first two weeks of term, SATs, or other significant school events.

For more details on term-time holidays and absence, please refer to the school’s policy.
