Sports Funding

PE and Sport Premium Funding

Schools receive PE and Sport funding based on the number of pupils they have in Years 1 to 6. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - is allocated to primary schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. Schools are held accountable for how they use the additional funding to support pupils progress and participation in PE and school sport. In addition, schools are required to publish on-line information about how they have used the additional funding, including details about sporting provision alongside curriculum details. This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Lothersdale.

Our report on how we spent the Sports Premium in the previous school year is available here.

At Lothersdale Primary School, sport is not just an activity—it’s a celebrated priority woven into the fabric of school life. We are committed to fostering a love for physical activity and team spirit, and last year was no exception! Our students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitions and tournaments, ranging from events at the local secondary school to exhilarating local fell races.

One of the highlights of our sporting year was a visit from Olympic medallist Jonny Brownlee MBE, who spent an inspiring day with us. Jonny spoke to the children about his journey in sports and coached them in triathlon disciplines, including cycling and long-distance running. This memorable experience motivated our students to take on the Brownlee Medal Challenge in the Spring term, and many of our KS2 children later participated in a Brownlee Foundation Triathlon during the Summer term.

We are proud to provide our children with a broad range of sporting activities, fostering both enjoyment and competitive spirit. At Lothersdale, we believe in the power of sport to inspire, motivate, and bring our school community together.
