Music Express
Music express is an online platform, written by leading experts in primary music education. Music Express has quality and engaging music lessons with careful progression built in, from Early Years to Age 11. It is easy to use for teachers with little confidence in music, and allows flexibility for music specialists.
The essence of Music Express is to create a topicbased, cross-curricular approach to support children’s learning in music and across other subjects through music. By using Music Express as the basis of a scheme of work, we can ensure that we are fulfilling the aims for musical learning stated in the English National Curriculum.
Alongside Music Express, we also have regular singing assemblies in school and the pupils take part Harvest, Easter, Christmas and end of year performances, where they can practice and enhance their skills in music and performance.
Two-year Music Express rolling programme
At Lothersdale, we follow the Music Express two-year rolling programme of units for mixed age-group classes. This helps us to provide a sense of progression and ensures appropriate transition form units.
Lesson Bank
Music Express provides hundreds of lessons, with enough material for a year’s worth of music teaching.
The Song Bank
Music Express provides us with over 400 songs to learn and perform. We use these songs for singing assemblies and during music sessions, to build pupils confidence with performance and singing.
Assessment
Music sessions are assessed using formative and summative assessment strategies. In lessons, teachers will formatively assess pupils knowledge and understanding, against the music express key skills and progression document.
Rock Steady
At Lothersdale, we also work with Rock Steady, a company which provide weekly in-school band lessons that celebrate fun, individuality and creativity!
