At Lothersdale, we believe that high quality geography teaching offers our children the foundations for a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. Our geography curriculum at Lothersdale provides children with skills and knowledge for developing a natural curiosity and fascination about the world around them.
Our bespoke geography curriculum has been thoughtfully planned and sequenced, to ensure that pupils are being exposed to high quality geography teaching and learning. We are passionate about allowing pupils to develop a natural curiosity of the world around them, therefore our geography units are based around a key learning enquiry question, to promote geographical enquiry and discussion.
Alongside this, our curriculum is based around a core text for each half term. Where possible, teachers will make cross curricular links with geography and other subjects, to further strengthen knowledge and understanding in geography and to provide exciting cultural capital opportunities, linked to geography and the whole curriculum.
Whole School Overview
Our whole school overview clearly indicates when geography is taught in classes during Year A and Year B. Every year, classes deliver three geography units, and each unit is taught through a series of learning enquiry questions.
Knowledge Organisers
At the start of each geography unit, pupils will be provided with a knowledge organiser, including key information regarding core knowledge for each unit, six enquiry-based learning questions, links to previous knowledge and unit specific vocabulary. The knowledge organisers are used as a teaching tool throughout each unit.
