Towneley Hall

Class 3 had an amazing time at Towneley Hall on Wednesday, where we extended our knowledge of the Ancient Egyptians even further as we were able to handle real artefacts from the different periods. We learnt that the Egyptians worshipped many Gods and that the Sun God, Ra, rose in the east every morning and travelled across the sky throughout the day. However, at night, he entered the underworld in a boat, which was pulled by the dead. We also learnt that Pharaohs were a representation of the God, Horus. We were even lucky enough to see a mummy and the sarcophagus too - it was so beautiful and we were amazed that it has lasted for more than 3,000 years. The trip was a great opportunity to enhance our class topic and a perfect end to the children’s learning of the Ancient Egyptians.

We would like to thank our parent helpers - Mr Oddy and Mrs Schepisi, as well as our school governor Mr Cullen - who all gave up their time to support Miss Gallagher, Miss Russell and Mrs Binns on the trip.
